Gmail also has a blue verification tick

Google is launching a Gmail feature that will help users determine whether a sender is real or fake. With this new feature, when a user receives an email message from a verified company, a blue tick will appear next to its name.

This update is the latest implementation of Google's 'Brand Indicator for Message Identification (BIMI)' technology. Google started testing this technology in Gmail in 2020. Initially, 'BIMI' listed brands get the opportunity to add the verified logo to their email messages.

And the blue tick is 'probably a relatively clear indicator of the sender's legitimacy', reports tech site Engadget.

When the user hovers the mouse cursor over a blue tick mark in Gmail, he will see a 'pop up', which reads 'The sender of this email message has verified that they are the owner of this domain (from which the mail came) and the logo in the profile picture.

A link accompanying this 'pop up' will take the user to a page with more information about it.

“Strong email verification system helps users and various email security to detect and stop spam. Besides, it also helps the senders to gain the trust of various brands.” -- wrote Google in a blog post.

"In addition to increasing trust in different email sources, it provides a seamless experience for recipients, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone."

The feature may take until the end of this week to reach all Gmail users. In the meantime, various 'workspace' admins can help with 'BIMI' setup for their companies, reports Engadget.
