Chatgpt is going to face the first defamation case!

Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatgpty has been accused of providing false information about the mayor of Hepburnshire, Australia, Brian Hood. OpenAI, the company that owns the chatbot, is going to be sued for defamation for the first time in this incident.

ChatGPT was launched as an AI chatbot in November last year. Millions of users started using the platform in no time.

Recently, Australian politician Hood found out that around 2000, ChatGPT is showing his name as the culprit of the foreign bribery scandal related to 'Note Printing Australia', a subsidiary of the country's Reserve Bank.

Meanwhile, the mayor's lawyers said that Hood himself had informed the relevant authorities about the bribery of foreign officials in connection with the printing of currency. No corruption allegations were made against him at that time.

However, according to the information provided by ChatGPT, the accused in the case of bribery has served a prison sentence! Hood said he would file a lawsuit against OpenAI if such misinformation is not corrected in the chatbot.

If he files the case, it will be the world's first defamation case against ChatGPT.

Defamation lawsuits in Australia generally require damages of up to 400,000 Australian dollars.

Hood's lawyer said that a show-cause notice was sent to OpenAI on March 21 expressing concern about this. The company is also given 28 days to correct the incorrect information.

But OpenAI has yet to respond officially to Hood's legal notice
